RANCH RODEO RULES
Each team will have four members. One member of the team must either be under 16 years old or a woman. The youth participants age will be verified the day of the event.
Calf Branding (Time limit is 2 minutes)
There will be a pen of calves in which the youth/woman participant will be the roper. The rules are "Catch as catch can". One adult team member may enter the pen as well. The calf cannot be touched until dragged across the start line. Only after the calf crosses the start line can the calf be flipped and branded. Branding iron must remain in the stove until the rope is removed. Time will start when the rider enters the pen. Time will stop when the branding iron is returned to the "Branding Pit".
Wild Cow Milking (Time Limit 2 Minutes)
Are you looking for a little action? Then Wild Cow Milking is where it is at! Two teams will be in the arena at the same time. Two wild cows will be roped and then must be slowed down enough to capture at least one obvious drop of milk to be shown to the judges. The roping of the cow is "Catch as Catch Can". Cowboys must work together to hold the cow long enough to get some milk in a bottle. When milk is in the bottle, a runner will run the bottle to the judge and tip bottle upside down revealing at least one drop of milk. Fastest time wins. If no milk is displayed, team will receive a no time.
Range Doctoring/Trailer Loading (Time limit 3 minutes)
Nothing proves a cowboy's ability than doctoring or loading cattle out on the range. The Range Doctoring/Trailer Loading event will be the test of the cowboys' roping and teamwork capabilities. The time starts when two members cross the time line. Two animals will be in the arena. One of the animals will have a mark. The animal that is marked must be loaded in the trailer. The other animal must be range doctored. Time will be called when either the animal is doctored or at the close of the trailer door after the other animal has been loaded, which ever task the team completes last. The team is responsible for removing ropes from the animals.
OPEN RANCH BRONC RIDING (Time limit 1:30 minutes)
“Ride as ride can” for 8 seconds. A standard working saddle must be used. No PRCA rigging allowed. No hobbling of one or both stirrups. Horse has to be saddled, as he would be for everyday use. If catch rope is carried on the saddle it must be attached as it would be for everyday use. Saddled for everyday use means- stirrups have no binding in order to hold stirrups forward, nor can they be hobbled under the horses girth. Flank cinch must be hobbled to front cinch with hobble strap no longer than 10 inches. Rope must be free except for the rope strap, no tying rope to anything but the rope strap. Stirrup leathers must be standard leathers. Saddle blankets or pads should not be used. Saddles should have full or 7/8 double rigging, no centerfire or 5/8 or 3/4 rigging allowed. Saddles will be inspected before unsaddling in the stripping chute. Violations will result in immediate disqualification in the ranch bronc riding.
A regular bucking horse halter with one rein must be used and shall be provided by the ranch team. Wild Ride Points will be awarded for the difficulty of the horse and also for the degree of aggressiveness, control, and exposure demonstrated by the rider. If the rider believes that he has been fouled he must yell “foul” in the first 3 seconds of the ride and then continue to make best ride possible throughout the 8 second ride. A re-ride may be awarded at judge’s discretion.
